Most companies already have the answer to an employee’s question written down somewhere: a policy in SharePoint, a procedure in Confluence, a spreadsheet in Google Drive, a table in an internal database. The problem is finding it, and knowing whether the version you found is the current one. kovac turns those sources into an assistant your staff can ask in plain language.
Connect the sources you already use
You connect a source once and kovac keeps it in sync on a schedule you choose. Built-in connectors cover Amazon S3 and S3-compatible storage, Google Drive, Confluence, SharePoint, SQL databases and websites, including pages that need a browser to render. You can also upload files directly or import a whole folder or zip archive, with optional metadata files that travel alongside the documents.
kovac reads a wide range of formats: office documents, PDFs including scanned ones, spreadsheets, presentations, email with attachments, structured data and source code. Tables keep their rows and columns, and charts and figures are described in text so their content can be found.
Permissions come with the documents
When a connected source reports who may read a document, kovac carries that permission over. A user only receives answers drawn from documents they are allowed to read, and the rule is enforced in the database, not only in the interface. You can organise people into departments, decide which departments can use which collections and agents, and see in advance what a given user would be able to find.
Answers your staff can check
Every answer cites its sources, and each citation opens the exact passage in the original document. Search combines keyword and semantic matching, then reranks the candidates, so a question phrased differently from the document still finds it. Questions can be asked in a different language from the documents.
Documents have a lifecycle. You can keep earlier versions, set the dates a document is in force, and archive what no longer applies, so the assistant answers from the policy that is current rather than the one that happened to be uploaded last.
Know whether it is working
kovac builds a set of test questions from your own documents, which your team reviews and accepts. You can then measure how often the right passage is found and track that over time as documents and settings change. Answers can also be scored automatically for faithfulness to their sources.
Run it the way your organisation works
Staff sign in through single sign-on. Roles decide who can manage knowledge, build agents or only ask questions. Every change to a collection, document or permission is recorded in an audit log you can export to your own security tools, and usage and storage are measured per workspace so you can see what the assistant costs to run.
